NileGuide Expert tip:
Lots of locals come up to Cerro Amigo at sunset to drink mate. Bring your own beverage of choice and start a conversation with someone!
Description:
Cerro Amigo is a short (15-20 minute) hike into native cypress forest just 2km East of downtown El Bolson. It can be reached walking East from downtown on Islas Malvinas for approx 1 km until it dead-ends. From there, go north (left) appox. .5 km up the hill. A parking area / trail head is on left side of road.
Trails lead approx. 400 meters up to a main panorama, however, continuing past this until the end of the trail leads to a better lookout--a large rock outcropping with great views of the entire valley of El Bolson and the Andean Cordillera.
Cerro Amigo is an ideal afternoon / sunset hike to do your first day in town to get "a lay of the land."
