Most travelers in El Bolsón seem to congregate at Jauja in the center of town (Avenida San Martin) to eat ice cream, but the best place is actually "hidden" across the street (adjacent to Via Bariloche bus terminal). Hummus churns their own ice cream on site using organic milk, fruits, chocolate, and other products from the Hummus Organic dairy north of town.For travelers with kids, Hummus is a great place to hang out because of the large outdoor setting with swings and playground equipment. It's also one of the few places in town that's kept clean (no cigarette butts) by American or European standards, including the bathroom.
Unfortunately there's no real dinner menu at Hummus, but you can still order pub-style snacks--grill cheese sandwiches, fruit salads, smoothies, yogurt, meat and cheese trays, beer from local brewery El Bolson, and the best ice cream in town.
As a bonus, you can visit the Hummus Dairy Farm located on Camino de los Nogales, ten minute walk from town. It opens every day 9 to 5, except for Sundays. Telephone number: 49-2702.
