Description:

Kingman Farm has long been a top choice among mountain bikers, cross country skiers, snow shoers, and day hikers in the Portsmouth Seacoast region. Owned and managed by the University of New Hampshire's Natural Resources Department, this 335-acre property serves as a land preservation and sustainability laboratory for the university. Its extensive trail network weaves through clusters of tall pine, oak and hemlock trees as well as open fields dedicated to plant and composting research. The trail surface is generally level with a soft, loamy texture that makes it suitable for most outdoor enthusiasts. A few gentle dips and bends in the terrain add welcome variety to this rustic sojourn. In the winter, an open field near the property's entrance features an uphill grade which is ideal for sledding or zipping downhill on cross country skis. An adjoining section to the property, managed by the Town of Madbury, features a deep woods trail network that offers serene, picturesque views of the Bellamy River. On hot summer days, it's possible for hikers and mountain bikers to refresh themselves by making their way to the shoreline and dipping their toes into the river's trickling current. For those seeking the welcome embrace of the forest, Kingman Farm is always a pleasure.
