There are plenty of cultural things to do near Temple Bar that don't involve going to the pub. Although it is the cities place to party it is also its cultural district, with museums, galleries and even its own art house cinema the IFI. In fact some of Dublin's main attractions are located in or only a short hop away from the narrow cobbled streets of bustling Temple Bar. Including Dublin Castle, Trinity College, Christchurch Cathedral, The Gallery of Photography and lively Meeting House Square Market.
Dublin Castle is both a great historical, cultural and relaxing place to visit. It was founded in 1204 on a site previously settled by Vikings and it has an otherworldly atmosphere. On its rambling grounds is the Chester Beatty Library which holds some of the oldest manuscripts in the world, the unusual Garda Museum, Revenue Museum, the Dubh Linn gardens and state apartments. A highlight of a guided tour is the foundations built by Vikings which they found by chance in 1986.
The Meeting House Square market is held every Saturday and if you have the opportunity do make the effort to go your tastebuds will love you. It is sensory overload, smell roasted coffee bean and fresh baked goods, nibble on Irish cheeses, hot samosa's and feast on Grade A oysters fresh from the Atlantic Ocean.
