On the walk up to plaza San Blas, one happens by El Buen Pastor, an unassuming bakery offering an impressive assortment of freshly made pastries. Just to name a few, there are at least six varieties of tarts, chocolate donuts, croissants, fresh bread, spinach pies and mini pizzas. Though not advertised, the bakery also doubles as a foundation and dormitory where young women from provincial towns live and work while continuing their secondary education. Slightly more expensive than other bakeries in town, the proceeds benefit the upkeep of the young women's home, and are well worth the extra sol or two.
