Vacationing on this island is about sea and sand, and this Top 10 List of Best Beaches in Cozumel will assure that you don't miss out on the essential vacation experience. We've included a beach or two on all sides of the island in order to cover the variety of surf and beach culture. These Top 10 Beaches in Cozumel consist of white, powdery sands and tranquil seas on the southwest side of the island, windier and rocky shores to the north and northwest, and wild, sporadic winds with rough seas - but often deserted or turtle-filled beaches - on the westward side. We've even included a beach on a small island (Isla Pasion) that lies off the northern tip of Cozumel.
The first beach we've chosen was a given. Punta Sur has something for all tastes and moods. It consists of a breathtaking white sand beach, a lagoon full of varied wildlife, a small museum, and a lighthouse. As if that wasn't enough, it's also part of a wildlife reserve and is close to the Maya ruin, El Caracol. Besides this beach, the south and west part of the island is comprised of beach clubs. Unfortunately, to enjoy some of the island's most beautiful beaches, one has to go to the clubs/restaurants. We've chosen two of the quietest clubs, Playa Corona and Playa Uvas, because of their beaches and service.
The third beach, Playa Azul, was also an easy choice because it is the closest decent beach to downtown, and it also offers great service, not to mention salsa on Sundays!
The east side beaches speak for themselves: no crowds, great waves for water sports, and turtles. Playa San Martin was the first to make the list because it is a nesting ground for turtles, and once you see the babies there heading desperately to the water, you'll understand why this precious spot was chosen.
