Description:

Restaurant Koefoed serves traditional specialties from the Danish island of Bornholm, located between Sweden and Poland and a popular holiday destination for many Danes. Though from the outside a rather non-descript looking building from the outside close to a gas station just off Store Kongensgade, the interior of Koefoed is light, fresh and classic, with fresh flowers and candles on the tables.

When many Danes think of Bornholm cuisine it rarely goes beyond the open sandwich classic, 'Sol over Gudhjem,' (chives, rye bread and egg)—except here at Koefoed's. The open sandwich lunch plates are replaced in the evening by simple, classic dishes like Bornholm lamb, beef and freshly-caught Baltic fish, as well as a special five-course tasting menu. Where possible, ingredients come from Bornholm, often with a story attached: In January 2011, the restaurant purchased 20 free-range Bornholm lambs that are now being served on the menu, and also have an agreement with a free-range farm on the island breeding Limousine Cattle. The 2010 Michelin Guide gave Restaurant Koefoed a special recommendation.
