With its modernist architecture of glass and steel, the black-toned, 267-room monolith that is the Imperial Hotel must have seemed state-of-the-art when it first opened in 1958. A little dated by today's standards however, its interior is a hub of quality, efficiency and high standards—though maybe a little too standard for those who like their hotels on the unusual side. A four-star hotel now owned by the reputable Arp-Hansen chain (meaning reduced rates at weekends), the Imperial was completely renovated in 2006 and is ideally suited for business travelers who will value that efficiency and service as well as the spacious rooms, smart restaurant, vast, relaxing lobby area and large conference rooms. Those interested in Scandinavian design will be fascinated to learn that one floor of the hotel, including all of its rooms, has been dedicated to the stylish design and furnishings of Danish style icon Børge Mogensen (1914-72).
