Nørrebro Nightlife in Copenhagen
Nørrebro is the quarter of Copenhagen with an edge. With its fair share of students, creative and Bohemian types, the neighborhood doesn't sleep after dark. There's a little of everything here - cocktail bars, wine bars and jazz clubs - but all in a more off-beat, underground edition of those downtown.
Nørrebro has a reputation for a rougher edge, which makes our top choice, cocktail bar The Oak Room even more of a surprise find. With its smart decor inspired by the top spots of London and its long, wooden bar, this small place gets incredibly crowded at weekends. Other popular late night hang-outs for Nørrebro residents are the nearby cafe Pussy Galore and cocktail bar Gefährlich.
The neighborhood can boast of two nightclubs: Popular Rust, a dance music favorite and the underground Stengade, recently reopened after a lack of funding forced its closure in 2009: This has its own Sunday night club, Rub-a-Dub Sundays. Those who feel like a movie will find more obscure flicks amongst Hollywood favorites at the local cinema Empire Bio - its 10pm screenings are particularly popular.
Jazz fans should check out the Blue Monday jazz jams at Cafe Blågårds Apotek, while for those interested in the spoken word, Kerouac-inspired book cafe Underwood Ink and old church Literaturhaus offer a mixture of Danish and international author nights.
