Copenhagen's gay and lesbian scene is well established and can therefore seem a little old-fashioned: Many of the gay bars in the Danish capital have been around for decades, and have generally not changed much. A little rough around the edges, you're sure to meet new people and can dance until breakfast time.
Our first choice is Copenhagen's oldest gay bar:
Centralhjørnet is nothing special to look at, but it has been around so long it's almost an institution in the city.
Cosy Bar has been around since the 70s and is, similarly, a familiar place.
While being gay is certainly not a criminal offence in Copenhagen, you could try getting locked up at restaurant and bar
Jailhouse: Behind the bars, it's surprisingly tastefully decorated.
While electronic clubs like
Dunkel,
K3 (formerly
Pan) and
Never mind are places for gays and straights alike to enjoy high-energy disco and a good party atmosphere, other spots, like
Men's Bar, are for gay men only.
If this all seems a little too rough,
Oscar Bar Cafe, just off the City Hall Square, is a far more elegant spot. Frederiksberg's
Cafe Intime, meanwhile, has plenty of regulars-gay and straight-who enjoy the artistic atmosphere of this laid-back piano bar. Even more artistic is performance space
Warehouse 9, where drag is a whole lifestyle.
