Christchurch's most important landmark, the Cathedral is one of the busiest attractions in the city. It is in the Gothic Revival style and was built beginning in 1864. This makes it one of the oldest buildings in New Zealand. Although it sustained a bit of damage in the 2010 earthquake, the Anglican cathedral remains open for 'business' and you can even attend communion daily. There are 133 steps to climb if you fancy a view over the square.
