Sometimes you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, so if you are looking for a day escape from Chicago you have plenty of options. Spend the day exploring the acres of lush gardens at the Chicago Botanic Gardens north of the city and then catch an outdoor concert at Ravinia during the annual summer Ravinia Festival. Take the train to Evanston, the first suburb north of the city, and catch a show at the Music Institute of Chicago and explore the campus of Northwestern University. If you have the kids in tow, make a trip to the wonderful Children's Museum and then spend the day at the Brookfield Zoo. If you are an architecture buff, you have to make a visit to the Frank Lloyd Wright home and wander the lovely residential area and tour this historic home. If the outdoors are calling your name, grab your back pack and get hiking at the Marblehouse State Park, Fox Ridge State Park, or Eagle Creek. All offer great camping, hiking, and picnic areas!
