If you have carved out enough time to visit Hyde Park, you are in for a treat! This great neighborhood is often overlooked by tourists because it is so far south, but it has plenty to explore. Begin by wandering the prestigious University of Chicago campus, and be sure to stop by the Oriental Institute Museum, housing a world-famous collection of Near Eastern art. Also pay a visit to Hyde Parks other great landmarks, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, and the Robie House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The huge Museum of Science and Industry is in the neighborhood as well, but on a smaller scale check out local visual art talent at the Hyde Park Art Center, as well as the cultural programs at the historic South Shore Cultural Center. During the spring months wander through Jackson Park, a lush and woodsy park, located behind the Museum of Science and Industry. If you are able to visit the park, make sure to check out Osaka Garden, a peaceful Japanese garden with a beautiful moon bridge. You may also enjoy spending the afternoon at Washington Park Sunken Garden, complete with water slides, playgrounds, fountains, and large open spaces.
