French Food Pour Tous! Chicago is quickly becoming the culinary capital of the US. French cuisine is often equated with fine dining, and while the Windy City has plenty of that to go around, the French restaurants here cover a huge range. Whether it's casual crepes or haute cuisine, the French chefs in Chicago know what they're doing! Stroll into Lincoln Square's cozy Bistro Campagne for refined flavors with a lightly rustic style. Chef Michael Altenberg uses seasonal organic ingredients and raised by local farmers and designs a frequently changing menu to deliver the most flavorful iterations of classic French bistro dishes like cassoulet, boeuf bourguinon, and socca provençale. The lavish interior decor by Pierre-Yves Rochon at Café des Architectes located in the Sofitel Hotel is only outdone by the outrageous beauty of executive chef Greg Biggers' dishes. The Muscavoy duck here will be gorgeously plated and unquestionably delicious: fine dining at its best. Recently opened Henri across from Millenium Park has a quiet interior and traditional French fare that speaks for itself. The sommelier is to be trusted with all questions, and enjoy the plats du jour, whatever it may be. TRU's menu includes a prix-fixe menu with three courses or a six to nine course tasting "tour". Whatever you choose for dinner, make sure to begin with the chef's stunning caviar service. Kiki's Bistro offers a range of classic French dishes including bistro favorites like foie de veau, coq au vin, and steak au poivre. Kiki began his US career as the sommelier of Maxim's, and his restaurant will not disappoint. Chez Joel is located, oddly enough, in the heart of Chicago's Little Italy neighborhood. Their traditional French menu (bouillabaise Marseillaise, magret and confit of duck a l'orange) comes at extremely reasonable prices. Inspired by an ancestral farm in Bergerac, Cyrano's Farm & Kitchen adds a touch of whimsy to spreadable patés, sandwiches, and entrees. Decorated with century old barn wood, Cyrano's aims to create an eco-friendly farm-to-table model for dining. Casual Le Bouchon breathes life into classic French dishes; everything is a warmer shade of crusty gold, each green seems a little brighter. Order anything on the menu--you won't be disappointed. Now in its fortieth year in the same location, La Creperie in Lakeview is a cozy place to drink delicious French wines over freshly cooked crepes. Choose from a wide variety of sweet or savory (or both!). Located on the fortieth floor of the Stock Exchange building, Everest offers beautiful views, three or four course prix fixe menus, and a three course pre-theater dinner.
