Gay & Lesbian in Chicago

If you are looking for a lively and positive gay/lesbian community, Chicago is where it's at! One of the most unique aspects of this community in Chicago is its' centralized location in Lakeview known as Boystown. Whether you are looking for a quiet pub, a great cocktail, dancing, or a place to free your musical loving soul, you will find it on Halsted and Broadway Avenues. Start your night at Wilde Restaurant and Bar, fittingly named after the gay writer, for some fantastic pub food and a beer. You can easily spend the whole night trying every beer on this menu and meeting an array of people, or you can move your party a few blocks away to Cocktail on Halsted. Here enjoy a quick cocktail, check out the scene, and move across the street to Roscoe's to test out your dance moves. Walk just a half block south to Sidetrack and Minibar where you are sure to see quite a crowd. If you still have energy left and are looking for even more of the "scene" head to Berlin, but don't expect to be home at any decent hour! Halsted Avenue can be very fun, but I recommend having a drink with friends at The Closet on Broadway for something more low key, or checking out the Kit Kat Lounge just north of the Halsted bars for some pretty wild entertainment! If you are looking for a bar even further away from Lakeview head to Crew in Uptown, a completely gay sports bar, or check out the laid-back bar, Big Chicks on the Far North side.
