Description:
A natural amphitheater nestled in a pine and cypress forest, for the last 100 years the Forest Theater has offered quality live stage performances and screenings of classic films in a magical setting. The stage is flanked by two towering pine trees that form the proscenium arch, and two stone fireplaces which are kindled during every evening performance. There is little more romantic than watching a play beneath the moon and a canopy of stars with aromatic smoke wafting from crackling fires as the fog creeps over Carmel. The production quality is usually top drawer, and the tickets are reasonably priced. Bringing a seat cushion is advisable, as the seating is all on wooden benches. If the small lot is full (it fills up quickly), you'll have to park on one of the narrow neighborhood streets. A small refreshment stand sells hot chocolate, coffee, and snacks, but most people pack their dinner and wine. Lastly, you may want to carry a flashlight since Carmel streets away from the main shopping areas are not lit.
