Description:

The battlements on the roof of Hotel Castelmar remind you that while it started life as a 19th century army barracks, it has been one of Campeche's most popular moderately priced hotels since a 2004 renovation. The 24 rooms and suites have been decorated in an updated Spanish Colonial style and those on the Calle 8 side have sweet little wrought iron balconies with views of an immense mural across the street. Interior rooms open onto broad open-air corridors, which help you cool at night, as do colorful original floor tiles, high ceilings, and air conditioning. Modern showers with abundant hot water are a welcome feature. A plunge pool hides in a corner of the property and a friendly waiter serves breakfast (not included) at tables in the shady inner courtyard. Walk on Calle 59 toward the Main Square and you will walk past Marganzo Restaurant and Puerta del Mar.
