Sandy Beach
Address:
4500 14A St. S.W.
Calgary, Canada
Description:
Sandy Beach is a bit of a misnomer. There's no beach. There's really no sand, even. The Elbow River passes through here, just on the downstream side of the Glenmore Dam. This little area, near Britannia and the prestigious Calgary Golf and Country Club, is a surprisingly isolated area, a little escape from the city. This is a great place for picnics, as there are a number of shelters and fire pits. It's also the place of choice for people to launch rafts into the Elbow on hot summer days. Rafting on the Elbow is a slow, sometimes too shallow, time to just enjoy the summer weather.
