No matter where you go in the world, an Irish pub is close at hand, and for a good reason: pubs are great. Calgary has a lot of pubs. Many of them are virtually identical, such as Limericks, Kilkenny, Donegal (because they're owned by the same company), but others have a uniqueness to themselves. Wherever you go, you're sure to find a comfortable atmosphere and plenty of good eats.
The Ship and Anchor is Calgary's most popular pub. Located on 17th Ave, this pub provides really good quality, fresh pub food for surprisingly low prices. They also have lots of beers on tap. The patio is almost always full, when the weather permits.
Across the street, the Rose & Crown is a traditional English-style pub. It's maintained it's reputation because of it's atmosphere, which is authentic but cozy. On St. Patrick's Day, the downtown establishment, the Unicorn, bursts at the seems. It's hard to get in, but it's a real party atmosphere.
One of the most overlooked pubs in Calgary is the Hop in Brew Coffee and Beer House. This fusion of coffee shop and beer house takes two great ideas and combines them into one spot. It's a lot of fun, and the variety is great.
