Everybody loves a good pub. There's something great about spending time with friends, drinking some beers, having some good food. Calgary has a number of great pubs. Some of the pubs in Calgary are part of a franchise called "Calgary's Best Pubs," and they're ok pubs, such as Limericks and Dixons. But, I also like places where the food is freshly prepared, there's lots of beer options, and the atmosphere is unique.
The Ship and Anchor is a Calgary favorite. It's busy all the time, which is a testament to its greatness. The food is very good. They give you a good portion size, and it's fresh. But most importantly, it's surprisingly cheap. The patio is a summer-time favorite for locals.
A unique spot in Calgary is the Hop In Brew Coffee and Beer House. Not a lot of places have tried combining the two concepts, but it works. This is one of Calgary's most neglected spots, in my opinion. Broken City Social Club brings in a lot of live performers. It's probably one of Calgary's better places to see live music.
