The Boss Bar in Maadi is just around the corner from the Red Onion. It seems to renovate and reinvent itself every few months, but the consistent thing is that it prides itself on being a decent music venue.The bar itself is pretty swish, all wooden pillars and comfy seating. There's a stage in one corner that is in use a few nights of the week, either for live music or karaoke. Boss Bar sometimes puts on some half decent Reggae nights, and even has an open mic night once a week, where local musicians come and jam together.
Boss Bar gets pretty crowded, especially at the weekend, with the affluent Maadi crowd of young expats and Egyptians. The atmosphere is upbeat and welcoming, service is good, and the drinks – although expensive – are not extortionate. Adequate food is also available, though get there early if you want to eat in peace.
Overall, Boss Bar is a pretty good night out. The only downside is that it gets extremely smoky.
