The whale sharks swim fast, so this is more of a vigorous swim than a leisurely one.
Description:
Want to swim with the whale sharks in Bahia La Paz? You have two choices. Sign up with Amigos Del Mar and show up at 6:30am. You will be torn between sleeping or looking out at the spectacular landscape of the real Baja as their van takes you two hours north to the historic city of La Paz, where John Steinbeck based the heart of his nonfiction book The Sea of Cortez, in which Steinbeck and Ed Rickets document the incomparable marine life and Mexican culture in the Baja Peninsula. Your guides will take you directly (in season, from November to April) to groups of plain spotted whale sharks. You will swim with 25 to 40 foot long gentle giants. These plankton eating behemoths glide slowly through the waters of Bahia La Paz, and don't mind the fact that you are swimming mere feet away from them. This experience is once in a lifetime and not to be missed (175 USD). The second choice is to rent a jeep, get up before dawn, drive to La Paz, and get one of the local panga drivers to take you out for 20 USD per person and save yourself a pile of money, so that you may take your signifigant other out for dinner at one of the finest restaurants in Los Cabos.
