NileGuide Expert tip:
Try a glass of the Lageder pinot noir. This is one of the benchmark producers in all of Italy, and wines this superb are rarely available by the glass.
Description:
DOC is a wine bar and restaurant offering Italian and Mexican wines by the glass or bottle, as well as a large selection of Italian dishes. Owner Pietro Gioco and chef Emanuele Oliviero are both native Italians, and the menu is traditional, with very good carpaccio, bruschetta, pastas primavera and carbonara, and tiramasu for dessert. They offer a large selection of wines by the glass, ranging in price from about 7 to 13 USD. Whites include international varieties like sauvignon blanc and chardonnay, or more traditional Italian varietals like pinot grigio, Gavi di Gavi, lagrein, and falanghina. The Gavi di Gavi pairs exceptionally with the caprese salad. Reds by the glass include stalwart Italian varietals like nebbiolo, barbera, sangiovese, primitivo (a close relative of the American zinfandel grape), and valpolicella. The Alois Lageder pinot noir is the best wine they offer by the glass, and is well worth the price. Cocktails include a Campari spritz, and virtually nothing else. Service is generally very good, although you will not find the degree of wine knowledge in the staff that you do at most wine bars in the US. They are centrally located across from Plaza Amelia Wilkes on Calle Cabo San Lucas, within walking distance of the Malecon.
