Los Cabos has world class restaurants and dining, and for all the deserved attention lavished on the amazing scenery and vigorous nightlife here, the culinary treasures should not be underrated. There is fresh local seafood galore, traditional Mexican dishes, and so many great Italian restaurants one sometimes feels as though this is a far flung outpost of the Roman Empire.
Our top pick is Deckman's At Havana in San Jose del Cabo. Chef Drew Deckman was mentored by famed chefs Paul Bocuse and Jacques Maximin, and he learned his lessons well. Deckman turns over most of his menu every night, so no two dining experiences are ever quite the same. The ingredients are always local and organic, the wines terroir driven and excellent, and the delicious dishes artfully constructed without ever being ostentatious. All this, combined with a comfortable atmosphere and live nightly jazz, makes this the best dining experience available in Los Cabos.
There are several incredible wow-factor restaurants in Cabo San Lucas, with five-star menus equaled by amazing views. The best of these are Sunset Da Mona Lisa and El Farallon at the Capella Hotel. Sunset Da Mona Lisa offers Italian dishes and local seafood, with spectacular views of Land's End and El Arco. The tables feel as if they are perched over the Sea of Cortez. Guests to El Farallon enter through the longest private tunnel in Mexico, torch-lit, to a seafood centric restaurant with tables sitting cliff-side on the Pacific Ocean. These restaurants are so romantic they should come with a warning attached.
The most off-the beaten path selection is Cerritos Beach Club and Surf. This requires a drive up the coast towards Todos Santos, but is a locals favorite on Sunday, where you can surf or swim between courses of mariscos and hearty fare like their wonderful hamburgers. They make their own tequila here, so don't be shy about washing down lunch with a chilled shot or two.
Lovers of great Italian food should take note of Romeo y Julieta and Salvatore's. Romeo y Julieta offers great wood-fired pizzas and the best caesar salad in town, constructed French style at your table. Salvatore's offers great food in portions so large you should consider sharing entrees. The lasagna is particularly legendary.
