In order to go beyond the bus tours and the football games, you need to do what the Boulderites do. Many of Boulder's off-the-beaten-path things to do are unusual events that happen throughout the year, so be sure to check the local happenings while you're in town-or better yet, plan your trip around some of these incredible events!
Arguably the most interesting of these events is the
Conference on World Affairs, which happens on the
CU campus for a week in early April. A forum on international affairs, the arts, media, science, technology, environment, spirituality, politics, business, and nearly anything else you can think of, this event is free and open to the public, so take advantage!
The
Colorado Music Festival goes from June through August and celebrates music in the beautiful, historic Chautauqua Auditorium. The
Aerial Dance Festival, which lasts for two weeks at the beginning of August, takes dancing to new heights. Instead of presenting traditional ballet and jazz ensembles, this unique festival combines rock climbing skills with choreographed dance disciplines.
The stars are on display beneath the funky dome of the
Fiske Planetarium most Friday nights during
CU Boulder's spring semester and is open to the public. Twice a month the planetarium goes psychedelic, performing fancy laser shows to a variety of music, including U2 and Led Zeppelin. To get a little more grounded,
Long's Iris Gardens invites you to take a relaxing walk around the expertly manicured iris fields and even dig for your own clusters.
