Fernando Botero, Colombia's famed sculptor and artist best known for his grotesque "fat people" in 2000 gave over 87 pieces of his own art collection and a further 123 pieces of his artwork to be displayed in a museum in the Candelaria. The result is one of the most interesting and diverse art galleries in Bogota with works by Degas and Pissarro on display in addition to Botero's own fat Mona Lisa and a portrait of Pablo Escobar being gunned down on a Medellin rooftop. Entry to this fine museum situated in a beautifully restored colonial mansion is free.
