Description:
In just under an hour's drive up out of Bogota and into the region of La Calera you can find an area of outstanding natural beauty called Chingaza National Park. Spanning almost 77,000 hectares and reaching altitudes of over 4000m the park is an incredibly delicate and balanced ecosystem that feeds the Orinoco basin with water and is home to fauna such as deer, wild boars, cock of the rock, jaguars, wild turkeys and even the Andean Condor. Here you can hike and explore the trails that lead up over the plateaus and up to lakes. Camping is not permitted and temperatures remain chilly despite the burning high altitude sunshine, so come prepared. A maximum of 40 people are permitted entry into the park each day and it may be worthwhile booking ahead.
