Stepping into the Puerta Falsa is to step back into a Bogota of another era. This is supposedly Bogota's oldest restaurant having been handed down from generation to generation from 1816. Really, it's just a hole in the wall around the block from the Primada Cathedral. You would think with these credentials that it would be packed with tourists attempting to enjoy a slice of authenticity, but, in reality this is not the case since it remains popular with Bogotanos and visitors alike. Arrive early in order to snare a seat at a table downstairs otherwise you'll be jammed into the half floor above where you have to stoop to negotiate your way around. So, once you have got that space at the Puerta Falsa, what to order? Well, ajiaco of course! There is no better place in Bogota to enjoy this traditional soup that warms the cockles on the chilliest of days on the altiplano. For those wishing to be a bit more adventurous, try the peto and then wash it all down later with a traditional hot chocolate with a slice of cheese dunked in as they do it here.
