Description:
Owned by German Escobar, a long time traveller himself, the Platypus opened up all those years ago when no one dared to venture into the Candelaria let alone downtown Bogota. It quickly became the refuge for the wandering souls intent on looking past the troubles in the area and trying to enjoy Colombia. So, German ensured that all of his information in the Platypus was up to date and of course reliable ensuring that further waves of travellers would them come to this formerly troubled country. And the legend of the Platypus grew, German is routinely chatted about in guidebooks and on online forums and the Platypus still holds its own against better funded and more modern installations. There is an emphasis on community here, there's no TV in the common areas only tables and chairs so that people can enjoy a coffee or something stronger together and pour over the array of maps available. And the Platypus has grown to include two further houses catering to longer term stays and recently German opened what can only be referred to as a Boutique Hostel around the corner named conveniently the Casa Platypus.
