La Pinta, so-called to emphasize the visitor's "discovery" of America as if in one of Columbus' fleet may be the first real hostel in Chapinero, an area known principally for being gay tolerant. The dorms are spacious and comfortable, there is an effort by the Colombian owners to ensure that the service here is top notch, and they have even helpfully designated an outdoor terrace area for smokers. Chapinero is close to many nightspots, many restaurants and is big student haunt given the prevalence of several universities. Prices in La Pinta feel a little higher, but justifiably so given that the whole place is recently remodeled and refitted and you know you are getting quality.
