Peruvian food, the cause celebre of the international cuisine scenee has taken Bogota by storm and there are now more than 10 recommended places in which to savor this wondrous creation in the Colombian capital. Delicately balanced between light ceviches in a tantalizing marinade of lime, sprinkled with chopped onions, a little picante and then served up chilled and fresh, what more can you ask for? A lot! While Peruvian cuisine is often pigeon-holed to merely seafood, have I mentioned the seafood jaleas? There is a great deal more to try from. The Aji de Gallina is a creamy and unforgettable chicken staple that can fill the hungriest of stomachs and if you really need a kick, go with the Bisteck a lo pobre, essentially a steak laid on top of yucca, potatoes, avocado, salad, rice...a real working lunch! And then with the careful measure of flavors you could try papas a la huancaina as a starter. But, save some space, the Suspiro Limeno for dessert is an absolute must. So, for an evening or two, forget that you are in the highlands of Colombia and allow yourself to be transported to Peru with the enticing food and bewitching exotic names that garland Bogota's Peruvian restaurants such as Nazca, Huancaina Gourmet and Mancora amongst others.
