One Stanley Avenue Restaurant is perhaps one of the best kept secrets in Kingfield, a mountain community located about an hour north of Augusta in the Rangely Lakes region of western Maine. It's a shame because this restaurant, and its adjoining Three Stanley Avenue bed and breakfast (both are within the mansion built by Bayard Stanley of the famous Stanley Steamer automobile company), provides an ideal lodging and dining experience. One Stanley Avenue offers a cozy, intimate atmosphere that conjures up the romantic simplicity of upscale country living. Each dish is carefully and exquisitely prepared with the finest ingredients and best gourmet cooking skill. It is immediately obvious that these restauranteurs cherish the fine art of meal preparation and presentation – each dinner is a true occasion to be savored. Menu highlights include Alluvial Chicken sauteed in white sauce and served with fiddleheads, juniper berries and hemlock; Chive Fettuccine Piemontese featuring garlic, dry vermouth, cream and sundried tomatoes; Roast Duck with Rhubarb Glaze; and Dilled Lobster on Zucchini. No matter what the choice, One Stanley Avenue satisfies with a variety of tastes, smells and textures. This restaurant is well worth that "special dinner out" when visiting western Maine.
