Outside the City
You definitely shouldn't leave the area once you are done exploring the city of Bath, as there is so much more to see in this area. Bath stands at the gateway between the Cotswolds and Somerset. The Cotswolds are brimming with honey-coloured villages like
Castle Combe, and offer some of England's finest hotels and most rewarding walks.
Somerset, on the other hand, is home to a wealth of world-renowned sights. First there's
Glastonbury with its Tor, Festival and extensive collection of 'alternative shops'. Then there is the pretty and tiny city of Wells, which boasts one of the country's finest cathedrals. The village of Cheddar should not be missed either, as it is the home of one of the world's most popular cheeses, fabulous caves, and the remarkable Cheddar Gorge.
If history and mystery are your bag then do not miss the stunning
Stonehenge, situated within easy reach of Bath. Other rewarding day trips include
Lacock,
Longleat Safari Park and
Stourhead House.
