Barcelona is known for being ideally situated. Nestled between the mountains and the sea, come spring and summer in Barcelona the beaches are packed with locals and tourists all soaking in the sun. Barcelona's beaches stretch up and down the coast with some of the best kept secrets only a 20 minute train ride away from the city center.
Our number one pick is in the heart of Barcelona at the edge of Barceloneta. If you're looking for convenience, this is the place to go. Probably Barcelona's most touristy beach, it's a fun way to spend a summer afternoon, playing frisbee, volleyball or paddle and sipping mojitos at one of the many chiringuitos (outdoor restaurants) lining the boardwalk.
If you walk about 20 minutes away from Barceloneta, you'll stumble upon our number three pick, Mar Bella. Also known as the 'naked beach' Mar Bella is slightly less busy than Barceloneta and the water is a bit cleaner for swimming. This beach has a much more relaxed vibe and is great for late afternoon parties when the DJ's come out and start spinning. As long as you're being 'sans clothes' this beach is an excellent choice.
Venture outside of Barcelona, about one hour by car and you'll hit our number seven pick. Tossa De Mar is one of Catalunya's most beautiful beaches with crystal water and white sand this is an amazing day trip especially if you love gorgeous scenery.
