Description:
Lake St. George State Park, located just 25 miles east of Augusta, has a bit of something for everyone who loves the outdoors. The lake itself is 1,017 acres and is a major draw for swimmers. It is also popular with those who simply enjoy viewing or dipping their toes in the cool, refreshing waters of an inland lake. Three to five miles of hiking trails skirt the perimeter of the lake itself for picturesque scenic views, while also winding inland for a touch of woodlands beauty and serenity. The trails are also a magnet for cross country skiers and snow shoers seeking to enjoy prime winter fun. Loon and other wildlife can often be spotted and make for great picture-taking opportunities. Visitors can rent canoes or boats to course along the shoreline or even visit several undeveloped islands located throughout the lake. Fishing for salmon and brook trout is available, as well. The park features several campsites and, in the day-use area, families often enjoy swings and playing basketball or volleyball. Whether as a day visit or long-term camping, this park offers much in the way of outdoor recreation for families and individuals alike.
