Operated by the College of the Atlantic's Allied Whale program and the Bar Harbor Whale Watch Company, the museum does a particularly good job of explaining the lives of whales which migrate to the gulf during the summer months.
Among museum's whale collections is a striking life-size model of a prehistoric whale (creatures which, researchers believe, actually walked on land). This museum is especially kid-friendly and a great side trip (especially on those occasional rainy days) for a family outing. Admission is free, although donations are gratefully accepted.
