NileGuide Expert tip:

Be aware of where the dangling handle is that lifts the protective tarp along the gunwales. You may need when boats race past or wakes slap against the hull!

Description:

This is not a guided tour; this is the real Bangkok. Khlong Saen Saeb or Saen Saeb Canal connects the mall in Bangkapi in the east to Panfa Bridge, near Golden Mount and the King Rama VII Museum. Its route passes through the heart of downtown, running parallel to Petchaburi Road. Commuters switch boats for the easterly or westerly route at a central pier which is a short walk from Central World and Ratchaprasong. The canal is lined with concrete walls and walkways and scenes of the lives of the locals. Just climb on board at any one of the piers and the attendant will come around to sell tickets as the boat is already in motion. The fee depends on the distance traveled but should only go as high as about 18 baht. Several piers have posted maps but often only in Thai. There is a pier for the Jim Thompson House Museum. The boats run daily during daylight hours.
