Description:
The Bangkok Seashell Museum is the creation of Mr. Jom Patamakantin who over decades along with his father collected 1000s and 1000s of sea shells. The roughly 3000 shells on display here are not the entire stock. Three floors of shells are on display categorized and showing Thai and English explanations of what each one is and where and when it was discovered. The giant clam just over a meter wide is impressive as are the assortments of colorful urchin shells, but the rarest of them all is a large slit shell, a species found only at great depths. Some freshwater aquariums have some living examples. Some shell-related gifts are for sale by the door. The Seashell Museum is a worthy distraction in the Silom Road area and the pleasant staff give a little tour around the rooms. The closest BTS SkyTrain stop is Surasak, about a 10-15 minute walk. Admission is 200 baht.
