Go during the week when the crowds are smaller. Register for the GreenSpace social network on the website to find specials and make reservations for the 19th floor.
Description:
The GreenSpace seasonal beer garden is hosted by Heineken and local foodie outfit Greyhound. As the "cold" season comes to Bangkok, the beer gardens at the plaza at Central World open up drawing huge crowds and offering 3-4 stages of live music. Heineken trumps them all by taking their beer garden to a whole other level -- the top floors of the Zen building which is part of the Central World complex. Inside the Zen World Lobby or on the Zen Department Store's 7th level are elevators serving the upper floors. Floors 18, 19, and 20 offer outdoor seating which is first-come first-served and people line up an hour ahead of time to get in. Live music is featured on a stage that overlooks all of Bangkok and a tube of ever-changing colored light encircles the rooftop like a halo above the crowd. One section of the 18th floor is air-conditioned but the open-air terraces go up three levels, each offering a slightly different mood and view. Heineken is exclusively on tap and served very cold at reasonable prices including pitchers and large portable plastic tap coolers. Greyhound handles the menu with some medium-priced dishes and appetizers. GreenSpace accommodates over 1,200 people and unlike many of the other rooftop bars such as
Sirocco, Red Sky and
Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar, there is no "smart casual" dress code. If you aren't in Bangkok for the season, the 17th-floor Zense Gourmet Deck and Lounge are still open. ZEN World is right between the BTS SkyTrain Siam and Chit Lom stations.
