Description:
Located on the "shopping promenade" in the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel is the Mountain Gallery, western Canada's largest commercial art gallery. This is part of a chain of galleries, which started in 1992 at Jasper, Alberta, but now includes galleries in Jasper, Banff, and Whistler, BC. The founder of the galleries is Wendy Wacko, a famous artist and film maker, in her own right. She has created these galleries to focus on the artistic work of major and mid-career artists from Canada, and the team they have assembled to serve that purpose is impressive. The level of service is world-class. The Mountain Galleries are known for the frequent exhibits, workshops, and demonstrations, which help make this gallery one of the most heavily visited galleries in Banff. It also has a well-established "artist in residence" program, providing studio space and accommodation for the artists represented at the gallery.
