In Banff, finding a good meal for a low price is not an easy task. Chaya has a prime location, right on Banff Avenue beside McDonald's, but it provides great food at a good price. The owner is a Japanese woman, who takes great pride in her food. Chaya is well liked for its Japanese noddle soup. Generally meals will cost $10 or less. Unlike the serving sizes, which are large, this restaurant is very small. There are very few tables. And, there aren't any booster seats for kids. The seats near the door can be very cold during the winter. But, waiting for take-out isn't a bad thing at Chaya. I wouldn't recommend Chaya as a romantic restaurant (it would kind of feel like taking your date to a Subway), but it is perfect for filling up after a busy day of skiing or hiking. There is clearly a strong sense of pride of ownership, and the restaurant is always spotless.
