In 1933, the University of Alberta created the Banff Centre in partnership with the Carnegie Foundation. It wasn't until 1970 that it received its current name. Today, it is a globally respected performing arts center and place of training. The Banff Centre is all about creativity and inspiration. The mountain setting serves to enhance the experience. And, many world-class acts and performers stop by the Banff Centre, which has a full schedule of events.
The Banff Centre is up the hill from downtown, but on the same side of the river. The Banff Springs is on the opposite side of the river, but it's still close enough to be able to enjoy a show. Same for the Rimrock. The downtown hotels, such as the Delta, Fox, and Caribou are very close to the Centre. Also, the B&Bs, such as Buffaloberry and Thea's, near downtown can make for a convenient escape up to the Centre.
If you're looking to enjoy the Banff Centre, you can't go wrong with any of the hotels in Banff. It's such a small town with almost no traffic that any anywhere you stay will be close to the Centre. It's a place worth checking out when you're in town.
