Everybody loves having cool stories to tell about their travels. The search for the great story is different for each person. Everybody has unique tastes and interests. Banff is most cool for its outdoor adventures and scenic beauty. There are things to do in Banff that you can't do in very many places. In Banff, the impossible adventure becomes a day trip with a trained tour guide. It's hard to believe some of the things you can do: stories that will last a lifetime.
Sunshine Village is famous for its long ski season. Most Canadian ski hills are open from December to March, but Sunshine stays open from November to May. At the end of each season, on May Long Weekend, Sunshine hosts the legendary "Slush Cup". Participants take as much speed as they can over a ski jump into a pool of water, hoping to skip across to the other side, but most often bailing wildly (to the delight of the audience). Sunshine has some of Western Canada's best snow, and it has the most all natural snow of any ski hill in Alberta.
Lake Minnewanka is close to the town of Banff, and it has a ton of activities. The abandoned coal mining town of Bankhead remains in ruins, nearby. Hills of coal are there to run down, and old frames of buildings stand as a reminder of days gone by. Or, if you're into that sort of thing, take it a step farther and explore an underwater ghost town. Lake Minnewanka is one of the few places in Alberta where people go scuba diving. There are also lots of miles of hiking trails, boat tours, and fishing at the lake. Two Jack Lake is nearby, as well.
The artistic visitors to Banff will enjoy the Banff Centre, which hosts world-class performances, has a huge art gallery, and also a fitness area. Generally shows that tour through Calgary's Jubilee Auditorium will also show up in the Banff Centre. The Banff Arts Festival, Book Festival, and Film Festival also get international recognition.
The activities in Banff are varied. Back-country horseback riding, spelunking, hiking on glaciers, enjoying the natural hot springs, etc. It's a cool place to visit.
