Description:
Maintained by the City of Hallowell, in conjunction with the Kennebec Land Trust, the Jamies Pond Wildlife Management Area features several expansive trails which wind their way through a compelling, rich wilderness environment only minutes from Augusta. This massive 800-acre property is dominated by Jamies Pond, a 107-acre pond rich with aquatic life such as fish and frogs. Wildlife is abundant and it is not uncommon to hear the sweet sounds of warblers or loons calling in the early morning mist. Many migrating birds also call Jamies Pond home at different times of the year.
Well-serviced and marked trails course through diverse terrain that ranges from level to slightly hilly. Visitors will especially enjoy walking along the shore of Jamies Pond to catch glimpses of deer, chipmunks and other forest residents. This property is easily accessible from central Hallowell by taking Water Street to Central Street, turning left onto Shady Lane and then right onto Jamies Pond Road.
