The Britomart Transportation area is quickly becoming a hub of evening activity. It seems like every month there is something new opening up. As the Vector Arena is located within a wee jog, this area is a great place to chill out with a drink or some food either before or after a gig. For the purposes of this list, bars that run along the waterfront all the way over to the Viaduct Harbour have been included. It may seem like a large area but, in fact, it is all within a few minute's walk and there are no hills. Something that is always good to hear on this city on a hill! If you are interested to try out some local beer, start at the Northern Steamship, which is a Mac's pub and continue on to Brew on Quay where the owner tries to highlight New Zealand beers. If you are looking for a place to catch the game, try The Right Track. It's a no nonsense kind of place, but they are always showing sports. Wildfire does some good seafood and O'Hagan's and Danny Doolans are both Irish pubs which pretty much do what Irish pubs do. So, within a short walk you can find just about any kind of drinking establishment that you are looking for. And if you decide to go down into Britomart to look at the lights after boozing, be sure and stay away from the trains!
