Outside the city
To get away from the bright lights and hectic pace of the city, head down to
Ventnor Beach and relax on the soft, powdery beaches. The whole family will love the Ocean City boardwalk. Lined with shops, eateries, amusement rides and miniature golf, you can walk the boards on foot or rent a bike, or even try your hand at parasailing at
Ocean City Parasailing - no experience necessary.
Further down the coast are the Wildwoods, known for their Doo Wop motels, long beaches, and wild amusement rides. Don't miss Victorian Cape May, known as the "Queen of the Seaside Resorts". Busy year-round, you can take the
Cape May Trolley Tour, dine at quirky restaurants such as the Ugly Mug and the Mad Batter, or climb the 218 steps to the top of the Cape May Lighthouse. Tour the Emlen Physick Estate to see how wealthy Victorians lived, then take tea at the Carriage House Tea Room on the estate grounds.
On the mainland just minutes from Atlantic City, explore more than 60 charming shops at the
Historic Towne of Smithville and Village Greene. In Jackson, teens will love the thrill of the rides at
Six Flags Great Adventure Park, while the younger ones who don't quite meet the height requirements of those perilous roller-coasters will love
Storybook Land, where they can walk (and ride) through their all-time favorite stories and nursery rhymes in a pretty, park-like setting.
