Description:
Housed in a beautiful neo-classical mansion, the Numismatic museum comprises close to 600,000 coins from the ancient Greece, Roman and Byzantium and more recent periods. The museum was the home of famous German archeologist Heinrich Schielmann who excavated Mycenae and Troy. Even if you're not a coin collector, you'll enjoy touring the mansion and gardens. A café located in the rear of the museum offers a quite retreat. Other points of interest nearby are the museum of the City of Athens (Vouros-Eftaxias) and the National History Museum (Old Parliament) and sites around Syntagma Square.
