NileGuide Expert tip:
Take the funicular (entrance at top of Ploutarchou street in Kolonaki) up to Lycabettus Hill and walk over to the theater. A small chapel and pricey restaurant, Orizontes (Tel: +30 210 722 7065), sit at the summit. Panoramic view of city.
Description:
Located in an old mining quarry, the highest point of the city provides excellent acoustics (a Greek word) for world-class performers. Bob Dylan, B.B. King, Patti Smith and Paco de Lucia are just a few amongst the many. Taxis loiter around the bottom of the hill to take wary walkers to the top, or buy a ticket to ride the funicular (€3 per way) that goes through the rock. For the stout of heart, walking takes approximately 30-45 minutes.
