Description:
Linkins Lake is located just below the top of Independence Pass and offers alpine adventurers access to two separate lakes. The well established trail follows the rocky and craggy landscape to both Linkins Lake on a high alpine plateau or the less strenuous Independence Lake that is found between Twining and Geissler Mountains. Nearly all of the terrain is above timberline and raw views are a great snapshot of the geological transition from the crumbly Elk Range peaks to the rocky Sawatch Mountains. This trail head is located a mile from the summit of Independence Pass on the western (Aspen) side of the road. A small trailhead on the north side of a switchback provides parking for 5-6 vehicles.
