If you travel west of Amsterdam's Jordaan, you will reach the neighborhood known as Westerpark, named after the park at its center. The Westerpark (Western Park) contains old factory buildings that have been converted into various entertainment venues including the Westergasfabriek concert hall and Ketelhuis cinema.
Near the park you can also find Haarlemmerplein, dominated by Haarlem Gate. The gate was on the main route to Haarlem, and travelers heading into town would leave their horses here and refresh at one of the many bars. To this day the square is full of unique cafes and restaurants.
The Haarlemerstraat, which leads from the Haarlemmerplein to the city centre, has a variety of unique one of a kind shops and restaurants. Barney's coffeeshop and café are both located close to each other; one being a famous destination for those who want to smoke during their time in Amsterdam, the other serving excellent breakfast and brunch. A beautiful cinema called The Movies is also on this street. Everything is still old fashioned here; from the screen to the chairs to the chalkboards with the day's screening times.
